An exhilarating racing event in Milton Keynes has raised an impressive £10,396 for the Young Epilepsy charity. The event, Purple Sectors, was a unique initiative that brought together young people with epilepsy and renowned racing professionals. It was a chance for these young individuals to step into the world of motorsports, even if just virtually, and compete alongside their idols. The event, held at Simply Race in Milton Keynes, featured 15 teams, each with seven young people who have epilepsy, racing against well-known drivers in simulated Renault Clio Cup rally cars on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit. The teams took on various roles, including camera work, commentary, and team leadership, offering a comprehensive racing experience. The event was a massive success, not only in terms of fundraising but also in providing these young people with a unique opportunity to engage with the racing industry. The presence of esteemed figures like Aston Martin junior driver Jak Crawford, Formula 1 Academy driver Alisha Palmowski, and F1 commentators David Croft and Harry Benjamin further emphasized the event's significance. The event's organizers, motorsports commentator Chris McCarthy, broadcaster Jennie Gow, and sports presenter Neil Cole, founded Purple Sectors to create opportunities for young people with epilepsy. The funds raised will go a long way in supporting Young Epilepsy, a charity that estimates over 100,000 children and young people in the UK live with epilepsy. The event showcased the power of community and the positive impact it can have on those with epilepsy, offering a fun and inclusive environment for all involved. The items raised included signed F1 driver merchandise, technology, paintings, and even a trip to the Monaco Grand Prix on a superyacht, demonstrating the generosity of the racing community. The event's success highlights the potential for similar initiatives to make a real difference in the lives of those affected by epilepsy.
