When you select U-Pack's Trailer Move option, this 28-foot rental trailer is delivered right to your door by a professional, courteous ABF driver:

You load it, and we'll deliver it to your new home quickly and safely. And here's more good news: with U-Pack, you pay only for the space you use. So, if you're moving a small home, and won't come close to filling a 28-foot rental trailer, no problem; just pay for the space you use. If you're moving a large home and feel certain you'll fill the entire rental trailer (plus some), that's perfectly fine too. More space is always available.

The rental trailer comes to you completely empty, equipped with a loading ramp and a secure divider wall (designed to separate your shipment from any palletized, boxed or crated commercial goods moving in the same direction). Because U-Pack moves only one household goods shipment per rental trailer, you'll never have to worry about your belongings being unloaded or transferred – a perk U-Pack customers love!

What is the size of ABF's Rental Trailer?

The trailer's external dimensions are 28 ft. x 8 ft. 6 in. x 9 ft. (lwh). Its internal dimensions are 324 in. x 96 in. x 108 in. (lwh). That results in a full-trailer capacity of about 2,000 cubic feet. And because U-Pack's price is based on the linear footage you use in the moving trailer, it's good to know that each linear foot is 1 ft. x 8 ft. x 9 ft. (lwh), or 72 cubic feet.

How much will fit into an ABF rental trailer?

U-Pack's rental trailer is significantly larger than even the largest rental truck. In fact, the loading space in a U-Pack trailer is equivalent in size to a 26-foot and 10-foot rental truck combined (with some space still left over). That means the full trailer typically holds a large 3-bedroom to small 4-bedroom home. To determine how much space your household goods will use, use U-Pack's moving space estimators. Just remember, you pay only for the space you use. So, if you're moving a small one-bedroom apartment, and only need 6 linear feet, you only pay for 6 linear feet. Now that's the way moving should be!

How much weight can an ABF Trailer hold?

It would be highly unusual for typical household goods to overload the ABF trailer, but it's still good to be familiar with the weight capacity. The ABF trailer can legally haul 22,500 lbs., only if the weight is evenly distributed throughout the trailer. Each linear foot of household goods is estimated to weigh around 450-500 lbs. That means a trailer full of household goods would weigh approximately 12,600 lbs (a far cry from the 22,500 that it's capable of holding). A half trailer (14 linear feet) would typically weigh around 6,300 lbs.

Where is the rental trailer parked?

Your rental trailer should be parked on pavement or hard packed gravel rather than soft earth or grassy areas. And as long as the parking is safe and legal, the ABF driver will park it exactly where you want it. Keep in mind that some areas require parking permits, so make certain to contact your HOA, apartment manager, city offices, etc., before moving day to make arrangements.

How do I load the rental trailer?

The ABF trailer sits approximately 48 in. off the ground, so ABF offers complimentary ramps for loading and unloading. The ramp is 2 ft. wide, allowing for the use of a standard-size moving dolly.

How are my items secured?

If you've checked out U-Pack's packing and loading tips, you know that items that are secured and tied down inside the rental trailer travel much more safely. To help prevent shifting in transit, you may nail blocks and braces to the trailer floor throughout the loading process. You can also use screwable hooks and eyes to assist in tying down your shipment. Many ABF trailers are equipped with logistics tracking that runs from floor to ceiling and offers multiple anchor points for tying down your shipment with ropes or ratchet straps. These types of trailers may be requested with the origin terminal, but they are not guaranteed.
