The Predator franchise has had its ups and downs, but it's never been short of fans. Since the 1987 classic by John McTiernan, the series has seen some cult favorites emerge from initially unsuccessful releases. Take, for example, the once-underrated Predator 2, now considered a classic. However, not all Predator outings have been winners. The Alien vs. Predator films, in particular, were disastrous, with the sequel Alien vs. Predator: Requiem being even worse than the first.
Even the better follow-ups, like Predators, failed to fully connect with audiences, despite having their fair share of fans. One of the biggest personal disappointments for critics came with The Predator (2018), a long-awaited return to the franchise by Shane Black. It was hyped as a return to form, but ended up being a chaotic misfire.
Thankfully, the series seems to be back on solid ground under Dan Trachtenberg, who has now helmed three strong entries: Prey, Predator: Killer (or Killers), and now Predator: Badlands.
