You'd think looking up "fullscreen editor rpg maker mv" or "how to change rpg maker mv editor in and out of fullscreen mode" or "rpg maker mv editor is in fullscreen" would get me anything other than a person asking if it's possible to make the editor full screen (apparently it is) and after that 500,000 variations of "make your game full screen? Hit f4!" like- yeah pal, I know that, that's not what I need. That's why I specified EDITOR.

Anyways, my gripes with search optimization aside, does anyone have any idea what causes this?
Because I looked through all the panels in the upper right, but I didn't find anything. There's an "options" that allows for some minor aesthetic changes, like recoloring transparent backgrounds, but that's it. No fullscreen function.

For a very direct reference, here's exactly what it looks like at the top. My windows task bar is still available at the bottom, so I can even minimize the editor, it's just in a different way then I'm used to and that's a pain in the *ss.

Lastly:
Everything was fine yesterday, I've done nothing differently between today and last night.
I had this issue once before but it went away on it's own, I don't recall how or why.
I'm using the version of MV downloaded from the website, version 1.6.1.
I have not yet tried restarting my computer, that may fix the issue.
I have restarted RPG Maker MV itself numerous times to no avail.
This started the first time I opened it up.

Even if restarting my computer does fix the issue, I'd still like to know what causes this, if out of nothing but raw curiosity.

I've never seen the editor do that, and I have no idea how you ended up in fullscreen windowed mode on it (that's where the app is fullscreen without the window header).

The hotkey to 'unmaximize' the window might work. Windows key + the down arrow key. I confirmed the hotkeys do work in MV, although I don't know that there is one for fullscreen windowed mode, like you seem to have maybe accidentally found?

I have a funny feeling that I've done this sort of thing in GIMP by bumping F10 or F11, but I don't recall which and I don't know if that's a thing in MV. Might be worth a try, though.

I already tried all the function keys with windows key, fn key, I think without as well. I can try again.
Just tried windows + down arrow and nothing. Still haven't restarted computer yet, I'll actually try that now. Got looking at another thread for a moment, that's why I haven't yet.

edit: restarted, and still nothin

what windows do you have?
if you open multiple instances of the editor with different projects, do all editors go in that mode?
Have you tried using the compatibility options ? There are several that are intended to deal with problems of resolution and fullscreen, and you only need to get out of that mode once to make the maker remember new settings.

additional info if the ideas above don't help:
RMMV uses the Qt framework for its windows structures. You might want to check if one of your other programs also uses that framework, or if you find a way to configure Qt with third-party programs on the internet.

Checked the "disable fullscreen optimizations" box and it seems to be normal windowed now, thankyou ^.^

Also, I am currently using Windows 11

For reference,
Using alt+tab to switch between open windows quickly is typically more efficient.
And if you have many windows open at once and want to quickly see the desktop (or need to force something to minimize) you can also use the windows + D key.

Glad you got it solved, and thanks for posting the answer.
